Liga MX Week 5 Preview 8/18-20

Friday:

8pm-Morelia vs Pachuca (Univision Deportes)

Prediction- 1-0 Pachuca, Morelia is not good and Pachuca’s defense will slow them down and Pachuca scores 1 goal in a dull affair

10pm-Tijuana vs Santos (Univision Deportes)

Prediction- 1-1, neither team is good, Tijauna is finally able to get 1 point at home

Saturday:

6pm- Cruz Azul vs Atlas (Univision Deportes)

Predicition- 2-1 Atlas, Atlas has been impressive and I think they take all the points against the Blue Cross

6pm-BUAP vs America (no tv)

Prediction- 1-0 America

8pm-Tigres vs Pumas (Univision)

Prediction- 1-1, Pumas’ defense will slow down the Tigres attack and sneak out with 1 point each, Tigres has not been impressive after winning 5-1 over Puebla week 1, now they play a good defensive team and will have a tough time getting going

8pm-Veracruz vs Queretaro (Univision Deportes at 1am)

Prediction- 1-0 Queretaro

806pm-Leon vs Monterrey (ESPN Deportes and Galavision)

Prediction- 3-1 Monterrey, Leon’s defense stinks and Monterrey has a good attack

1006pm-Chivas vs Puebla (Univision)

Prediction- 2-0 Chivas, Puebla is awful and a perfect recipe to get Chivas on track

Sunday-

1pm-Toluca vs Necaxa (Univision)

Friday:

230pm-Bayern Munich vs Bayer Leverkusen (FS1)- Great way to start off the Bundesliga between 2 top teams at the Allianza Arena

9pm-Portland Timbers vs NY Red Bulls (FS1)- Good game at a fun environment in Providence Park in Portland

Saturday:

730am-Swansea City vs Manchester United (NBCSN)- Not the greatest game but, something for the early risers

1230pm-Schalke vs Lepzig (FS1)- Last year’s surprise team make their debut at Schalke who are always tough

1230pm-Stoke City vs Arsenal (NBC)- A good game to end the BPL Saturday slate

215pm-Girona vs Atletico Madrid (Bein Espanol)- Girona makes their La Liga debut against a tough Atletico team

245pm-Verona vs Napoli (Bein USA)- Yes its week 1 but, if Napoli wants to win the Scudetto these are the games they need to win, against weaker teams that play tough at their home

Sunday:

830am-Huddersfield Town vs Newcastle United (NBCSN)-Always fun when new team makes their home debut

930pm-Seattle Sounders vs MN United (FS1)- Good way to end the weekend

Liga MX Week 4 Review

Puebla 1-1 Tijuana

Thoughts-Puebla was the better team, but, bad teams struggle alot and thats what happened both teams split the points and both have tougher games next week with Puebla going to Guadalajara and Tijuana hosting Santos

Up Next- Saturday, Chivas vs Puebla 10pm and Friday, Tijuana vs Santos 10pm

Atlas 0-1 America

Thoughts-Atlas had a PK stopped in the early part of the 2nd half, then America scored on a PK in the 92nd minute to take all 3 points back to Mexico City, now Atlas faces one of the other 2 Mexico City teams in Cruz Azul, while America faces Lobos who are a surprise team.

Up Next-Saturday, Cruz Azul vs Atlas 6pm and Saturday, BUAP vs America 6pm

Cruz Azul 0-0 Toluca

Thoughts-Both teams split the points which is decent for both teams, but, I think Cruz Azul would have liked to get all the points, Toluca goes back home with a point in a tough place to play,Toluca is lucky as they have zero shots on goal and 2 overall, Cruz Azul was the better team, next weekend Cruz Azul hosts a good Atlas team while Toluca hosts an upstart Necaxa team Sunday.

Up Next-Saturday, Cruz Azul vs Atlas 6pm and Sunday, Toluca vs Necaxa 1pm

Queretaro 2-1 Morelia

Thoughts-Queretaro got the points they needed, they beat a Morelia team which is not a good team (lower level table but, not, relegation bound), they were down 1-0 but, scored 2 goals in the 2nd half to win. Morelia hosts a good Pachuca team and Queretaro goes to Veracruz who is struggling.

Up Next- Saturday, Veracruz vs Queretaro 8pm  and Friday, Morelia vs Pachuca 8pm

Monterrey 4-1 Chivas

Thoughts-Statement game for the Rayados, down 1-0 scored a goal barely after the Chivas did and dominated the 2nd half, next week they head to Leon and hopefully no let down while Chivas hosts a weak Puebla team.

Up Next-Saturday, Leon vs Monterrey 806pm and Saturday, Chivas vs Puebla 10pm

Pachuca 2-1 Tigres

Thoughts-Just like above a statement win for Pachuca over a good Tigres team who I wonder if they were over hyped, after winning 5-1 against Puebla, they drew 1-1 against Santos and Queretaro and now lose here. Tigres host Pumas in a good one and Pachuca has a winnable game at Morelia.

Up Next- Friday, Morelia vs Pachuca 8pm and Saturday, Tigres vs Pumas 8pm

Necaxa 0-3 Leon

Thoughts- This was a surprise, Leon who was struggling played their best game of the season dominating Necaxa at Aquacaliente (Necaxa’s home city), and got the points

Up Next- Sunday, Toluca vs Necaxa 1pm   and Saturday, Leon vs Monterrey 806pm

Pumas Lobos 2-0 BUAP

Thoughts-Pumas got the points at home, their defense was very good as expected and they were able to get enough to get the win. Lobos now have their toughest game as they host America next Saturday while Pumas play at Tigres which will not be easy.

Up Next-Saturday, Tigres vs Pumas 8pm and Saturday, BUAP vs America 6pm

Santos 2-3 Veracruz

Thoughts-Surprise of the weekend as Veracruz went into Torreon and stole all 3 points from what was supposed to be a good Santos team, Veracruz now heads home to face Queretaro who are beatable and Santos faces Tijuana who are never easy to beat at home in Tijuana.

Up Next- Friday, Tijuana vs Santos 10pm and Saturday, Veracruz vs Queretaro 8pm

Week 5 Best games-

1.Cruz Azul vs Atlas 6pm Saturday (Univision Deportes)

2.Tigres vs Pumas 8pm Saturday (Univision)

3.BUAP vs America 6pm

Unvision games- Tigres vs Pumas 8pm and Chivas vs Puebla 1006pm on Saturday and Toluca vs Necaxa Sunday 1pm

Euro Football Saturday Review 8/12

Surprises:

1.Chelsea 2-3 Burnley- Who expected Burnley to go to Stamford Bridge and get a 3-0 lead at half before Chelsea made a game of it albeit too late. Chelsea gets an extra day to think about it as they do not play until 11am next Sunday at Wembley against Tottenham, while Burnley has their home opener next Saturday against West Brom at 10am.

2.Watford 3-3 Liverpool-Another surprise as the points were split, Liverpool hosts Crystal Palace and Watford is at Bournemoth both Saturday 10am starts.

Notes-

1.Nantes 0-1 Marseille- pretty much as expected

2.Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich both won easily in their DFB Pokal games before opening weekend next weekend (Munich hosts Leverkusen Friday 230pm and Dortmund is at Wolfsburg Saturday 930am)

3.Brighton & Hove Albion 0-2 Manchester City- Can not say I was surprised, Manchester City is a better team by a wide margin

Team of the day- Burnley

Dud of the day- Chelsea

3.LA Galaxy vs NYCFC  10pm ESPN2- Good way to end the night

Sunday-

1.BPL has 2 games Newcastle vs Tottenham 830am and Manchester United vs West Ham United both on NBCSN, the 1st game is the return of Newcastle to the BPL and the 2nd game is Manchester United against West Ham and their signing Chacarito

2.Liga MX has 2 games with Pumas vs Lobos BUAP 1pm Univision in an intriguing game between a good Pumas team and a surprising Lobos team then its Santos vs Veracruz at 730pm on Univision Deportes in what should be an easy win for Santos to be honest.

3.The Italian  Supercup from Rome between Juventus at Lazio is 245pm on GOL TV
